Two American naval supply ships collided in the Gulf of Aden, off Yemen, Thursday but there were no injuries, the US Navy said.

USNS Amelia Earhart and USNS Walter S. Diehl hit as they were beginning a resupply operation, the naval Central Command said in Bahrain.

"Initial reports indicate only minor damage to both ships. The ships are operating under their own power and are continuing their assigned missions," a statement said.

For years, international naval forces have operated a counter-piracy task force in the Gulf of Aden.
