Elaine Howard, who worked for what is now called Sightline Media Group for 28 years, has been named publisher and president emeritus for Sightline, and appointed to the advisory board.
Howard, who ended her career with the group in 2014 as CEO, president and publisher, led the transition of the group from a print publishing company to a multimedia corporation. She began her tenure in 1986, when the group — which also includes the Military Times family of newspapers and websites — was called Army Times Publishing Co. The group, a subsidiary of Gannett, was later renamed Gannett Government Media Corp.
"I'm glad to be back involved with such outstanding brands, and to be a part of its future," said Howard. She spoke to Regent Managing Director Michael Reinstein soon after the acquisition closed, which inspired her decision to return in the current role. "I spoke to Michael, and am thrilled by his excitement and commitment to the business group – Defense News, Federal Times, and C4ISR & Networks."
During her tenure, Howard:
- Launched Marine Corps Times as a separate publication from Navy Times;
- Spearheaded the creation of a weekly Sunday-morning TV show for Defense News;
- Led the launch of Defense News India in cooperation with a publisher there.
Since her retirement, she has been president and CEO of The Howard Group, a business consulting firm.
