WASHINGTON —Secretary Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced Friday today that Peter Cook, a veteran journalist with Bloomberg TV, will be the next Pentagon press secretary.
He fills a spot that has been vacant since Carter's first week in office, when Adm. John Kirby stepped down. Kirby has since become the spokesperson for the Department of State.
Cook is moving from his current role as Bloomberg TV's cChief Washington cCorrespondent. He previously covered the Pentagon for NBC.
In a statement, Carter said Cook's "years of experience in the national media, coupled with his personal integrity and nonpartisan approach, make him an ideal fit to represent this institution during a crucial period for our nation and our military."
