ARLINGTON, VA., March 2, 2026 — Defense News today announced its inaugural 2026 Tech Disruptors list, recognizing the executives, engineers, founders and program leaders driving measurable transformation across the defense technology landscape. The list is a flagship component of the Defense News Index, announced earlier this year to spotlight the individuals shaping the future of national defense.

Tech Disruptors is a who’s who of those turning ambition into action, delivering breakthrough technologies, compressing acquisition timelines and putting capability directly into the hands of warfighters.

What Makes a Tech Disruptor?

Selection for the 2026 list required demonstrated impact across one or more of the following criteria:

  • Breakthrough development: Conception and deployment of technologies that redefine what’s operationally possible
  • Mission impact: Measurable improvements to readiness, lethality, survivability or decision advantage
  • Acquisition acceleration: Proven ability to compress timelines and cut through legacy procurement barriers
  • Commercial-to-defense transfer: Successfully translating commercial innovation into fielded military capability
  • Process disruption: Challenging how the defense industry has traditionally built, bought and delivered

A Sector at an Inflection Point

This year’s honorees reflect a defense ecosystem undergoing fundamental change. Artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, cybersecurity, resilient space architectures, advanced manufacturing and secure cloud infrastructure are no longer simply emerging priorities; they are operational requirements.

The 2026 Tech Disruptors span established primes, growth-stage companies, venture-backed startups and public-sector innovation units. What unites them is a single defining trait: the ability to move technology from whiteboard to warfighter.

“These leaders offer a glimpse into an industry that is evolving at a blistering pace,” said JD Simkins, Editor in Chief of Defense News. “The 2026 Tech Disruptors are not just parroting modernization and lethality talking points of years past. These are the individuals responsible for building and fielding capabilities that are going to leave an indelible mark on the battlefields of tomorrow.”

The list arrives as national and global security demands faster innovation and tighter government-industry collaboration. From software-defined warfare to next-generation sensors and data platforms, industry is emphasizing speed and scalable solutions built for modern threat environments. This year’s honorees are at the forefront of that transformation.

“Disruption in defense is not about noise,” said Kelly Facer, Senior Vice President of Defense News. “It is about disciplined innovation, building technologies that matter, in ways that challenge how this industry has traditionally operated.”
