Imagine an Indo-Pacific crisis escalating as another theater simultaneously demands strategic airlift, sealift, fuel, specialized personnel, and other finite sustainment resources. Commercial shipping diverts around contested corridors. Cyber-attacks degrade logistics information systems. Long-range precision fires threaten ports, airfields, distribution centers, and other critical infrastructure. Allies mobilize while competing for capacity within the same global supply chains. What begins as a theater logistics challenge rapidly becomes a global competition for sustainment capacity.

The implications are profound. For decades, U.S. logistics superiority has relied upon strategic mass: large distribution hubs, secure ports, established transportation corridors, predictable force flow, and relatively uncontested strategic lift. That architecture was optimized for efficiency. In a contested, trans-regional fight, the same concentration and predictability can create vulnerability. The Indo-Pacific magnifies the problem through immense distances, constrained maritime access, dispersed infrastructure, anti-access/area-denial threats, and the requirement to sustain distributed forces across an extraordinarily complex operating environment.

The answer is not simply more logistics. It is a different sustainment architecture.

Amentum is addressing this challenge with a technology-agnostic approach designed to transform logistics from a linear, hub-and-spoke supply chain into a distributed, adaptive, low-profile operational network. This changes the deterrence equation. Persistent relationships with allies, commercial providers, regional logistics networks, and partner infrastructure can establish access, interoperability, alternative sustainment pathways, and distributed regional presence before crisis. An adversary confronting such a network must contend with a fundamentally different problem: disabling one port, airfield, supply route, or logistics hub no longer necessarily interrupts sustainment because the network can reconfigure around disruption.

Future logistics superiority will depend less on concentrating mass than on creating options.
