WARSAW — US, French, Austrian and Polish companies have submitted offers to participate in Poland's tender to acquire 882 new high mobility vehicles in various variants. The vehicles, both armored and non-armored, are to replace the outdated, locally built Honker vehicles and increase the mobility of the Polish Army.

A total of 14 applications were submitted to the Polish Ministry of Defense. These included offers by Humvee-maker AM General, French Renault Trucks Defence, Austria's Franz Achleitner Fahrzeugbau, as well as Polish manufacturers AMZ Kutno, Polish Defense Holding (PHO) and WB Electronics.

Initial applications were to be submitted by Sept. 8, but due to the high amount of requests for information the ministry received from potential bidders, the deadline for applications was moved to Oct. 8, reports local news site Defence24.pl.

The Mustang armament program is carried out by the ministry’s Armament Inspectorate, which oversees all major purchases for the country’s armed forces. The designed vehicle is to be fitted with a four-wheel-drive, enabled to carry eight passengers and a driver in a non-armored version, and four passengers and a driver in an armored version. In the non-armored variant, its total weight cannot exceed 3.5 tons, per vehicle, the inspectorate said in a statement.

Deliveries of the vehicles are scheduled from 2016 to 2022.
