Norway ordered in June the Sagem Sigma 40 laser gyro navigation system after holding a tender to equip its three Nordkapp offshore patrol vessels, Safran's defense and security unit said Tuesday Sept, 15 at the Defense and Security Exhibition International show
Norway made the order in June after holding a tender. Delivery of the three navigation units is due in November, said a Sagem executive, who declined to give a value for the contract.
The 3,300-ton OPVs will rely on the units for high-precision navigation to sail in harsh Aarctic conditions, the executive said.
Sagem also has won an order to equip the six vessels of the Harry DeWolf class of the Canadian Arctic offshore patrol fleet. The French company will deliver two BlueNaute civil navigation units per ship, Sagem said.
The new Canadian ships will be able to sail for 120 days and break through Arctic ice. The value of the contract was not available.
