WARSAW — Arkadiusz Siwko was appointed to be the new chief executive of Poland's leading state-run defense manufacturer, the Polish Defense Group (PGZ).

The new supervisory board of the Polish Defense Group (PGZ), named by the country's Ministry of Treasury, has appointed Arkadiusz Siwko as the new chief executive of Poland's leading state-run defense manufacturer.

The PGZ's new supervisory board, installed by the country's Ministry of Treasury, made the appointment.

The change at the group's helm is accompanied by an administrative overhaul which is to increase the control exerted by the Polish Ministry of Defense over the country's state-run defense industry.

While the Polish Treasury remains the main shareholder of PGZ, the country's new government, formed by the Law and Justice (PiS) party last month, has decided to subordinate Poland's state-run defense industry to the Ministry of Defense. Prior to this, PGZ and other state-owned defense companies were overseen by the Ministry of Treasury.

Siwko is one of the closest aides to Poland's Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz. Among his other roles, he served as Macierewicz's chief of staff when the latter was Poland's Minister of Interior from 1991 to 1992. In 1994, Siwko established a private research institute, Grosvenor House Strategic Studies Institute, and he has served as its president.

PGZ was set up established in 2013 with the aim to consolidate Poland's fragmented state-run defense industry. The group currently is comprised of comprises over more than 60 companies with a workforce of 17,500. , and Its aggregate annual revenues of are about 5 billion zloty (US $1.27 billion).
