WASHINGTON — Former Lockheed Martin executive Christopher E. Kubasik has joined L-3 Communications as president and chief operating officer, the company announced Wednesday.

Kubasik had previously served as president and CEO of the Seabury Advisory Group for two years, and before that, as president and COO of Lockheed Martin.

In the newly created position at L-3, Kubasik will work closely with chairman and CEO Michael T. Strianese, according to a news release.

"Chris is a proven leader with broad experience across our industry. The company strongly believes that Chris is the right person to help execute our strategy for growth, optimize performance and contribute to increasing shareholder value," said Strianese in a prepared statement.

Kubasik added that he is excited to join L-3. "I look forward to working closely with the management team to build on its strong foundation and position the company for continued success."

In an email for investors, CBC Capital Management's Robert Stallard called Kubasik's hiring a positive development for L-3.

"L-3 has clearly had some operating issues of late, whilst Chris has a good track record in the various operations at Lockheed Martin, and we think a good reputation with investors. This could mark a material step towards getting L-3 a valuation in line with its defense peers," Stallard wrote.

Kubasik's hiring comes on the heels of L-3 acquiring Nashville-based ForceX, a technology firm that specializes in ISR and situational awareness.
