Former CNO Greenert Named To BAE Board

WASHINGTON Retired Adm. Jon Greenert, a former chief of naval operations, has been named to the board of directors of BAE Systems Inc, the company announced this morning.

Greenert retired in October after a 40-year US Navy career, culminating in his service as CNO from September 2011 to September 2015. His term of office was marked by ongoing budget turmoil, where he dealt with annual continuing resolutions as Congress was routinely unable to provide timely funding, and was forced to make numerous cuts under sequestration conditions.

The board chairman of BAE Systems Inc. is Michael Chertoff, a former secretary of Homeland Security.

"Admiral Greenert brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise from a distinguished, 40-year career as a senior military officer and government leader," Chertoff said in a statement. "His experience in management, operations, and strategic planning will be highly valuable, and I'm pleased to welcome him to the board."

Greenert graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1975 and entered submarine force. He served on five submarines, including the special mission submarine NR-1, and commanded the attack boat Honolulu. He also commanded the US Seventh Fleet in Japan and was commander, US Fleet Forces Command.

At BAE Systems Inc., Greenert will serve a three-year term on the board of directors.
