The value of simulation-based training to the military might be measured by the market for commercial providers.

According to market research firm Strategic Defence Intelligence, that global market is projected to grow by 2.9 percent a year, to US $17.7 billion in 2026.

ArmyTechnology.com reports that the growth will be driven by the need of militaries around the world to cut spending on traditional training methods. The rising cost of energy and mandates to reduce environmental impacts also make training with real equipment and vehicles less attractive.

North America leads the market, with a 36.1 percent share and projected spending of $60.6 billion over the next 10 years.
