Future Combat Systems "Spinout 1"
The Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) program is ready to test a few components that soldiers may have in their hands by 2010.
NEW DELHI - India is changing a provision in its procurement procedures to encourage joint ventures between major Indian and foreign defense companies. The new law incorporated in the Defence Procurement Procedures is to be effective from Nov. 1.
"Under the current procedure in 'Buy and Make' cases, an RfP is issued only to foreign vendors, who are required to transfer technology to Indian defense industry. This does not promote the setting up of joint ventures or co-production arrangements in India by big foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers," according to a Defence Ministry release.
The Defence Ministry also plans to make it mandatory for all requests for information to be displayed on the ministry Web site.
In the next seven to 10 years, Indian defense forces are expected to buy weapons and equipment worth $100 billion.
