PARIS - The Safran group's Sagem has signed a contract with the Direction Générale pour l'Armement (DGA) procurement office for a further 500 Sitel vehicle-mounted tactical information systems for the French Army, the company said Oct. 6 in a statement.

The contract includes crew training, integration of the equipment into various vehicle types and maintenance, Sagem said. Sagem is prime contractor on the Sitel program, with IT company Cap Gemini as co-contractor. No financial details were given.

The latest contract brings Sitel orders to more than 2,000 units out of a planned buy of 4,500 terminals.

Sitel allows units from different services to exchange formatted messages, calculate the range of a target, consult databases and share displays of tactical situations, intended as an aid to tactical decisions. The terminal is interoperable with the Felin personal infantry kit.
