Capt. Ed Quinn
Capt. Ed Quinn heads the Surface Strike/Tomahawk Section in the Chief of Naval Operations Surface Warfare directorate. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1970, and served as an electronic technician (radar) on the destroyer Rathburne, completing deployments to the Tonkin Gulf, Western Pacific and Indian Ocean. After discharge, he attended Amherst College, graduating in 1980. He earned his commission at Officer Candidate School in September of that year.
Quinn has served in a variety of billets afloat in five warships, the last as commanding officer of the destroyer Curtis Wilbur in Yokosuka, Japan. He next served as assistant chief of staff for operations on the staff of Commander, Sixth Fleet, embarked in the command ship Lasalle in Gaeta, Italy.
A Navy political-military subspecialist, his assignments ashore have included duty as associate chairman of the political science department at the U.S. Naval Academy; Surface Warfare staff officer in the Chief of Naval Operations Navy Roles and Missions Cell; and duty at the Bureau of Naval Personnel as the surface commander detailer.
