DRS Technologies was awarded a $43.9 million contract to supply aerial training systems to the U.S. Navy and Air Force, the firm said at the Paris Air Show on June 17.

DRS will build, test and field P5 aerial training systems for use on aircraft including the F-15, F-16, FA-18 and AV-8B, the company said in a statement.

The systems are installed on aircraft for training exercises, recording mission data and transmit positioning data between aircraft. At the end of missions the information is transferred to ground consoles for reference and study.

The U.S. Navy will use the P5 systems in the U.S., while the Air Force will use them at bases in Italy, the UK and Germany. After production at DRS's facility in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., deliveries will begin in mid-2010.
