Questions about the Defense News electronic edition

What is the electronic edition of the paper?

The electronic edition of Defense News is an exact online replica of the print version. Each week, when a new issue is posted online, you may visit the site to read the electronic edition and enjoy the same articles available to readers of the print edition.

How do I get the electronic edition?

The electronic edition of the paper is posted each Monday to the Defense News website and links can be found on the main page of the site. Simply click the link and you will have full access to the electronic edition within your web browser - there is no need to download anything.

Do I need any special software to view the electronic edition?

No special software is needed in order to view the electronic edition. The electronic edition can be browsed with any internet-enabled computer with a web browser.

How is the electronic edition different from the print version of the paper?

The electronic edition of Defense News is an exact replica of the printed version of the paper. Anything found in the print edition will be viewable online.

Does the price of the electronic edition differ from the print cost?

Yes - we offer the electronic edition at a discounted rate when compared to the printed paper. Yearly subscriptions to the electronic edition provide you with 48 weeks of information for only $99.00. These savings are especially evident for our international subscribers.

Do I need to subscribe for the whole year in order to access the electronic edition?

Yes - in order to access the electronic edition, a 48 week subscription must be purchased.

If I subscribe to the electronic edition, is it possible to convert to the print edition?

Yes - simply call our customer support line or send us an email and we will be able to assist in converting your subscription to print. Because of the price difference between print and electronic and depending on how many issues are left on your current term, a balance may result on your account.

Will electronic archives be available? If so, will there be a charge to access the archives?

We keep an archive of electronic editions. To locate the archives click on the current edition link here or at the bottom of every page and then select 'Archives' from the menu on top of the current edition. Archive access is included in the price of your subscription.

Is there a limit on the number of times I can access the electronic edition?

Not at all - please feel free to visit and read the paper as often as you like.

What are the system requirements to view the electronic edition?

Other than Internet connectivity and a current web browser, there are no significant system requirements.

Can a user print just one article?

Yes - when viewing an article via the electronic edition you can simply click the Print icon on the electronic edition toolbar to print a copy.

Can I email interesting articles to colleagues?

Yes, but the recipient must also be a Defense News subscriber in order to access the article.

Can I save the electronic edition on portable media?

Because of the format in which the electronic edition is presented online, it is not savable to portable media and must be accessed through the Defense News website.

Do I have to be connected to the Internet in order to view the electronic edition?

Because the electronic editions are hosted online, an Internet connection is required. In addition to the default display, we also provide a lower-bandwidth version of the electronic edition for those not on broadband connections.

Who can I contact if I have a problem with the electronic edition?

If you encounter any trouble related to the electronic edition or the Defense News website in general, please contact cust-svc@gannettgov.com.
