WASHINGTON — Gen. Herbert J. "Hawk" Carlisle will begin his tenure June 15 as the president and CEO for the National Defense Industrial Association, according to an announcement.

Carlisle was most recently commander of Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force base in Virginia. Before that, he was the commander of Pacific Air Forces, the air component commander for U.S. Pacific Command, and executive director of Pacific Air Combat Operations staff at the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.

"I am extremely excited to join such a great organization as NDIA. The importance of the work they do to support U.S. national security cannot be over stated," Carlisle said.

The NDIA is a nonprofit educational association that instructs constituencies on national security topics, according to their website.

Air Force Gen. Craig McKinley was president and CEO since 2015, and he announced his retirement last year.

"I am extremely pleased that Gen. Carlisle is my relief. I have known Hawk for several decades and he will bring a wealth of experience and connectivity to the NDIA team," McKinley said, according to an announcement by NDIA. "We have selected a very strong leader at a moment in time where NDIA is in a very strong position to support national security."
