WARSAW, Poland — The Polish Ministry of Defence has announced a number of procurements in its "Concept of Defence of the Republic of Poland," a document released May 23.

"By 2032, we will introduce new air and missile defense systems," the document states. "A crucial element of our deterrence force will be played by the Air Force equipped with long-range precision weapons and ... 5th generation combat aircraft."

To protect the country's Baltic Sea coastline, the Polish military is to acquire additional "coastal missile units, manned and unmanned reconnaissance platforms, modern mine warfare and submarines," according to the ministry.

"The events of the past few years, such as Russian aggression in Ukraine, the destabilization of the Middle East and North Africa, and successive terrorist attacks, show a growing number of threats for Poland," Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz said in the foreword. "We are going … to strengthen our deterrence capabilities, building them on our own national defence capabilities."

The document states that Warsaw aims to enhance military cooperation in the region, with a focus on the Baltic States and other allies on NATO's eastern flank.

"This cooperation should manifest itself [by] the intensification of exercises, the creation of joint commands and units, and, if possible, in the joint acquisition of military equipment," according to the ministry. Other objectives include "strengthening our partnership with Berlin."

The document summarizes the findings of the ministry's Strategic Defence Review of 2016.
