PARIS — Turkish missile-maker Roketsan could join forces with Saab Dynamics to develop a new anti-tank missile system, the two sides announced on the second day of the Eurosatory equipment show.

The companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the show, but beyond that there were few details available of what the potential partners have in mind for the cooperation pact.

Industry executives said it was likely the development would be around a weapon aimed at the short- to medium-range anti-tank market. The partnership is in its early stages and work has yet to be done to start firming up the arrangement, including what the weapon might look like, they said.

Rokestan already produces medium- and long-range anti-tank weapons while Saab focuses more on smaller anti-tank weapons.

Roketsan Chairman Eyup Kaptan said his company was looking forward to “exploring a new system to lead us to global markets together with Saab. Investigating cooperation opportunities including the marketing of our weapon systems will be our main converging driving force. We hope the result of this initiaive will lead to a broader business cooperation in the future between the two companies.”

It’s the second tie-up for Roketsan with a leading European missile house to be announced in the last few weeks. Last month the Turkish company signed an MoU with MBDA Germany to collaborate on the development of a guided weapon based on a 70mm rocket system.
