WASHINGTON — Pentagon Comptroller Robert Hale will finally get to retire.

After years of preparing multiple budgets for numerous funding scenarios, figuring out how to operate the Pentagon under a government shutdown and managing the US Defense Department under sequestration, the Senate on Thursday confirmed Hale’s replacement, Michael McCord, as the Pentagon’s new money man.

The vote comes more than four months after President Barack Obama nominated McCord for the position. McCord has served as the deputy comptroller since January 2009.

For more than a year, Hale had expressed his desire to retire from government, but he had stayed on to help shepherd the Pentagon’s 2015 budget through the congressional approval process.

The Senate has yet to act on a number of other DoD nominations, including Jamie Morin, to be the director of Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation, and Christine Wormuth, to be undersecretary of defense for policy. Obama nominated Morin on Jan. 6 and Wormuth on Jan. 30.

Also yet to be confirmed are Jessica Wright, to be undersecretary for personnel and readiness, and Jo Ann Rooney, to be Navy undersecretary. They also were nominated on Jan. 6.

Hale’s last day at the Pentagon was not immediately available.■
