Israel launched a radar-equipped spy satellite Wednesday. The Ofek 10 satellite was launched from the Palmahim Air Base on a Shavit ("Comet") rocket, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The Ofek 10 is equipped with a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) that has "advanced day and night photography capabilities, and will work in all weather conditions."

The launch was carried out by the Israel Aircraft Industries and the Defense Ministry's Space Administration, which is a part of the Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure.

The launch comes amid tensions with Iran over Iran's nuclear program.
