Intelsat General Corp. and L-3 Communication Systems-West have successfully demonstrated the U.S. Air Force's Protected Tactical Waveform technology over Ku-band transponders on Intelsat satellites.
The demonstrations were conducted last week at Intelsat's teleport in Ellenwood, Ga. L-3's anti-jam modems and waveforms were tested over a Ku-band satellite emulator and over a Galaxy 18 satellite. Full-duplex voice, video and IP data were sent via the Protected Tactical Waveform, which is designed to resist jamming. Intelsat and L-3 plan further tests next year on Intelsat's EpicNG satellites.
“Through our collaboration with Intelsat, both airborne and ground users will be able to upgrade using L-3 wideband modems for both higher capacity and protected capabilities,” said Val Snyder, president of L-3 Communication Systems-West.
