Israel has unveiled its Super Heron UAV at the Singapore Air Show. The Super Heron is an upgrade of Israel Aerospace Industries(IAI)'s Heron medium-altitude, long-endurance UAV.

"The Super Heron features a heavy fuel 200 horsepower engine and an advanced propulsion system, which significantly enhances the UAS's capacity, rate of climb, and performance," said an IAI news release. Air speed is more than 150 knots, compared to about 113 for the original Heron. The upgraded aircraft includes enhanced processing capabilities, more electrical power, and more systems redundancy.

Endurance of the Super Heron is 45 hours and 1,000 kilometers, as well as a maximum altitude of 30,000 feet, according to IAI. Wingspan is 17 meters and maximum payload is almost 1,000 pounds.

"The system consists of multiple proven operational configurations for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance missions, maritime patrol and other missions," IAI said. "Multi-sensor capabilities, state-of-the-art communications and proven airspace integration are among its leading features."

The original Heron debuted in 1994. It has been used by some 15 nations, including the U.S., Israel, Turkey and India.
