Marine Corps looking for a few good Androids

The Marine Corps wants to know whether the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphone is capable of meeting its needs.

In a request for information to industry, Marine Corps Systems Command detailed specific device features that it requires, including:

■The latest version of the Android platform for smartphones

■ GPS antenna that uses the latest coordinate system and can obtain latitude and longitude values.

■ Wi-Fi.

■ Domestic and international cell data (3G/4G LTE) capability.

■ A camera to collect photographs in JPEG format, video recordings in MPEG-4 format and MP3 format voice recordings into data collection forms.

■ Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 compliance for data encryption.

Industry responses are due Jan. 23.
