US Senate Panel Approves Four Nominations

WASHINGTON — A Senate panel Thursday advanced four defense-related nominations, pushing confirmation votes to the full chamber.

The most notable of the group approved by the Senate Armed Services Committee is Jo Ann Rooney, President Obama’s nominee to be undersecretary of the Navy. Sen. Kirstin Gilibrand, D-N.Y., in October, placed a hold on Rooney’s nomination over her stance that the prosecution of rape and sexual assault should remain in the military chain of command.

Gilibrand ultimately could not get enough votes to block Rooney’s nomination.

The committee also advanced the nominations of Jessica Wright, to be undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, Jamie Morin, to be director of Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation, and Frank Klotz, a retired Air Force lieutenant general, to be undersecretary of energy and administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration. ■
