Pentagon seeks cheaper SWIR camera cores

The Department of Defense wants industry to manufacture short-wave infrared camera cores that cost less than $5,000, according to a new program announced by the Air Force Research Laboratory.

"This effort seeks to establish a merchant supplier base for not only the camera cores but sensors, packaged and unpackaged focal plane arrays, wafers and other associated components of SWIR sensor technology to allow for other companies to be able to realize different form factors," AFRL said.
