Army Maj. Gen. Robert Ferrell on Monday officially began his new post as the service’s chief information officer.
Ferrell was confirmed by the Senate Dec. 20 for promotion to lieutenant general and assigned as Army CIO/G-6, according to the Army. Ferrell will receive his third star at an upcoming ceremony, an Army spokeswoman said.
Since February 2012 he served as commanding general of Army Communications-Electronics Command and Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
Ferrell replaces former CIO Lt. Gen. Susan Lawrence, who retired in October following more than 40 years of service.
Mike Krieger will continue serving as deputy CIO.
