The Navy is looking at acquiring the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System for joint distributed exercises.
The Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division is conducting market research on using SINCGARS for distributed training. Navy ships can communicate with each other in distributed training using their own radios, so that a ship in San Diego and another in Japan can participate in exercises.
However, "as ground forces begin to get more involved in these training events, it becomes necessary to introduce SINCGARS frequency-hopping radios to the exercises," notes NAWCTSD.
The radios will be installed in unmanned radio towers and operated by remote control.
