PARIS — President Francois Hollande said Thursday that French troops would be deployed immediately to the Central African Republic after the UN authorised intervention in the troubled country.

France's contingent of 650 troops already in the country will be "doubled within a few days, if not a few hours," Hollande said after meeting his military chiefs.
