Awad Mustafa has joined Defense News as its new Middle East bureau chief, based in Dubai.
Mustafa will cover defense strategy, acquisitions, policy, business and market trends, as well as diplomatic developments across the Arabian Gulf region.
“The Middle East is one of the most important regions in the world, and establishing a bureau here is central to our commitment to remain the world’s leading source of news about defense,” said Tobias Naegele, vice president and general manager of Defense News.
A native of Abu Dhabi, Mustafa was most recently the diplomacy, security and energy reporter for The National newspaper in Abu Dhabi, where he has worked since 2009. Prior to joining The National, he was a reporter with Gulf News.
In his new role, Mustafa will be a central figure in Defense News’ expanded Middle East coverage, which also includes the Defense News weekly Arabic-language e-newsletter and periodic bilingual Defense News Extra editions.
Mustafa joins a staff of full-time reporters in Washington, London, Paris, Tel Aviv, New Delhi and Taipei, along with a network of 13 correspondents throughout Europe, Asia and Africa.
