UES Inc. will develop technologies to detect and analyze “biosignatures“ for ISR missions and human performance assessments for the Air Force Research Laboratory.
AFRL awarded a $46 million contract to Dayton, Ohio-based UES under the Molecular Signatures program.
According to the original contract announcement “a biosignature is a measurable feature based upon the presence and physiological status of personnel and their environment.”
Micro biosignatures cover the molecular level and can range from a person’s heart rate to the presence of explosives and biological agents, while meso and macro biosignatures include a person’s shape, dress and gestures that would indicate their national and ethnic origins.
The Molecular Signatures program will require “sensors for the detection of these signatures utilizing molecular, genomic, and nano-bio sensing elements, to develop and integrate molecular and biological signature databases, and to develop data analysis tools for processing, exploitation, and dissemination of detected signatures for informed and efficient decision making,” according to AFRL.
