MOSCOW — Six servicemen were killed and two others wounded in an explosion at a military firing range in Russia, the defense ministry said on Tuesday.
“As a result of an explosion six air force servicemen died,” the state RIA Novosti news agency quoted a defense ministry statement as saying.
The two wounded men have been taken for treatment, the statement said.
Military investigators have been dispatched to the scene, said spokeswoman Yevgenia Maltseva.
It was not immediately clear what caused the blast in northwest Russia.
Accidents at military firing ranges are fairly common in Russia.
