The Defense Information Systems Agency has big shoes to fill following the retirement last month of its program executive officer for communications.

In addition to his role as PEO for communications, Bruce Bennett also served as the deputy chief technology officer for the Network Services Directorate and chief engineer of the departmentís massive network that provides voice, video and data, now called the Department of Defense Information Network (DoDIN). Bennett retired Sept. 26.

Martin Gross is serving as acting director of PEO-COMMS, according to DISA.

Bennett is credited with shaping current transport capabilities for DoDís network, which enable network traffic to flow efficiently and securely, and for his role in the Defense Information System Network Technology Refresh. This includes the planning, purchase and implementation of replacement components for DoDís network and the systems it supports.
