More secure and sophisticated computing systems for C4ISR tasks is the goal of a new research project by the Trusted Systems Branch of the Information Directorate at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The Air Force is looking for new technologies to create more secure and resilient systems within capacity and energy constraints imposed by current C4ISR systems and networks.
Of particular interest are technologies that support architectures for high assurance, trusted/secure architectures, increased computational sophistication, more complex system functionality with improved quality, dramatic improvements in the energy/performance/cost of systems, embedded processing and quantum information processing, said the announcement of the five-year, $25 million project. AFRL also wants technologies that will speed up command decision times, reduce manpower requirements and save money.
Also of interest are technologies that can reduce warfighter decision latencies/response time, decrease system costs and system development times, automate labor-intensive/error-prone and costly aspects of system software development, and improve reliability, longevity and usability of new and legacy military computing systems.
