Army to continue WIN-T production

The Army is moving forward with limited production and deployment of its mobile tactical communications network backbone, the service announced last week.

The Warfighter Information Network-Tactical, or WIN-T, Increment 2 “provides soldiers with high-speed, high-capacity voice, data and video communications down to the company level for the first time,” according to an Oct. 8 announcement on the Army’s website.

As part of the Army’s larger network modernization strategy, soldiers and commanders will have real-time situational awareness inside their vehicles, via installed mission command systems, secure voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP calls, chat and other enterprise collaboration tools.
