DRS Tactical Systems won a five-year, fixed-price contract, valued at a maximum of $61.5 million, to support the Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below (FBCB2) program. The contract was awarded by the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime.
The FBCB2 contract comes as the Army continues work on the Joint Capabilities Release (JCR) upgrade to its battle command systems. JCR builds on FBCB2 and Blue Force Tracker. First fielded in 2012, JCR is the first of two planned upgrades to FBCB2, with JCR bridging the transition between FBCB2 and the upcoming Joint Battle Command-Platform.
JCR uses the BFT 2 satellite network to transmit data more quickly than the original BFT. It also debuts JCR-Logistics, which provides two-way situational awareness and message exchange between convoys and the maneuver formations they are supporting.
