ROME — Alenia Aermacchi has signed a partnership deal with General Dynamics Canada and DRS Technologies Canada Ltd. to compete the C-27J tactical transport aircraft in the Royal Canadian Air Force’s pending fixed-wing search-and-rescue replacement program.
Alenia Aermacchi will act as prime contractor and provide the green aircraft as well as engineering support and avionics, the firm said in a statement.
The aircraft will be modified and supported by General Dynamics Canada, which will install sensors for rescue missions. DRS TCL will provide long-term training support.
Alenia Aermacchi is a unit of Italy’s Finmeccanica, which owns the US firm DRS Technologies.
