ROME — Barco and projectiondesign displayed one of their first collaborative projects at ITEC this week.
The Small Environment Enhanced Reality–Single Channel, known as SEER-1, is a compact training and simulation dome display that uses a projectiondesign F35 WQXGA projector. Barco provides the SEER-1 system and works with specialist integration partners. This is one of the first examples of the two companies combining resources into a single project since Barco acquired projectiondesign in February.
The single-person dome attempts to create an immersive environment with one projector, keeping costs low and easing setup requirements. It is Barco’s first dome-style display that uses only one projector. Both companies typically work on large projects that require multiple projectors and larger screens.
The smaller offering is meant for more confined spaces and possible containerized areas, but maintains high visual fidelity with a 4 megapixel projector. The system on display at ITEC is showing ground forces training, but Barco representatives said it could also be used for civil applications. No militaries are using the offering yet, considering how new the product is, but Barco and projectiondesign hope they will find users among the joint terminal attack controller and ground-vehicle training communities.
