WASHINGTON — Lockheed Martin has named Roderick “Rod” McLean vice president and general manager of the F-16/F-22 Integrated Fighter Group (IFG), the company announced Monday.

McLean will be joined by Michael Cawood, who was announced as his deputy, in overseeing the F-16 and F-22 programs.

“Rod’s most recent special assignment as vice president and program manager for the next-generation trainer (T-X) program, combined with his past experience as vice president and deputy for IFG, perfectly prepares him to lead the IFG team into the future,” Orlando Carvalho, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, said in a statement.

McLean, a 19-year veteran of the company, served as both F-16 deputy vice president and program director for several countries that fly the fighter jet. Cawood was most recently vice president of F-16/F-22 IFG Product Development.

So far, 2013 has been a year of change at the top levels of Lockheed’s military aviation division.

New CEO Marillyn Hewson took control of the company at the start of the year, after an improper relationship forced out CEO-in-waiting Christopher Kubasik, who in turn was supposed to replace longtime CEO Bob Stevens from the role. Aeronautics head Larry Lawson left in April and was replaced by Carvalho; that same month, Lorraine Martin replaced longtime F-35 chief Tom Burbage, who decided to retire, and Jeff Babione was named deputy program manager.
