RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil — Saab has secured a second deal in little more than a month to help upgrade five Brazilian Air Force E-99 airborne early warning and control systems.
The Swedish company announced the 325 million kronor contract Tuesday just ahead of the opening of the LAAD defense and security show here.
Saab supplies the Erieye radar and other equipment onboard the Embraer 145 regional jet based AEW&C aircraft.
In February, Saab said it had been awarded a 380 million kronor deal to upgrade Erieye as part of a wider modernization being conducted by Brazilian aerospace company Embraer.
The E-99 has been operational with the Brazilian military since 2002, undertaking airspace and border surveillance duties.
The upgrade of Erieye will be delivered between 2014 and 2017, Saab said in a statement.
