PARIS — France is at a decisive time as the government considers national strategy for the next 15 to 20 years, procurement chief Laurent Collet-Billon said Wednesday at a defense conference organized by business daily Les Echos.

The policy review will have consequences for the 4,000 companies in the defense industry, many of them small and medium enterprises. The Direction Générale de l’Armement procurement office follows 315 small and medium companies in the supply chain as these are working on technology seen as “strategic,” he said. Ownership of these key companies should stay in French hands, he said.
