Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-N.J., has been named vice chair of the U.S. House Appropriations defense subcommittee, making him the chief lieutenant to subcommittee Chairman C.W. “Bill” Young.

In addition, Reps. John Carter of Texas and Charles Dent of Pennsylvania were named vice chairs of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and State and Foreign Operations subcommittees, respectively.

The appointments were announced Thursday morning in a press release from House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers, R-Ky.

“The Committee’s Vice Chairs are a group of committed, knowledgeable Members, each with a deep understanding of the Appropriations process and a desire to get our federal budgets back into balance,” Rogers wrote in his statement. “I expect they will serve capably and dutifully, playing a very important role in what will be a challenging but hopefully fruitful Appropriations year.”
