Cubic Simulation Systems Inc. was awarded nearly $300 million in contracts for Littoral Combat Ship training Jan. 25.

The Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division in Orlando, Fla., awarded three contracts of $99,500,000 to the Cubic subsidiary that is based in Orlando, where the majority of the work will occur.

One contract was awarded for training development on the Independence variant of the LCS, produced by Lockheed Martin, and another for the Freedom variant, made by General Dynamics. Each contract includes approximately 3,500 hours of training, both instructor-led and self-paced.

The training will be used for Train to Qualify and Train to Certify requirements, teaching sailors to operate the LCS for close-to-shore action before they ever set foot onboard.

The third contract is for mission packages courseware development and calls for an additional 3,500 hours of Immersive Visual Ship Environment Interactive Multimedia Instruction.

There were five competitors for each of the contracts; bidders were required to submit instructional and motivational strategies, learner assessment tools, sample rubrics and development tools. The selection was made based on technical performance, past performance and price.
