Rheinmetall Wins $373M in Contracts in Kuwait, Asia

FRANKFURT — German car parts and defense equipment manufacturer Rheinmetall said Jan. 21 it has landed contracts worth 280 million euros ($373 million) in Kuwait, Malaysia and another unspecified Asian country.

Rheinmetall said in a statement that the Kuwaiti contract covered the construction of training centers, as well as the training of air defense personnel to operate Rheinmetall systems. The Malaysian contract was for 12 fire control radars and six electro-optical systems for six new patrol boats. The order also includes spare parts and training, the statement said.

Another undisclosed Asian country has awarded Rheinmetall a contract for an Oerlikon Skyshield stationary air defense system, with delivery beginning in2014.
