A new animation set now caters to military scenarios and includes weapon handling, giving specific hand signals or arm motions for helicopters or ground operations, kneeling, running, walking, and talking.
Germany’s Rocketbox Libraries formally released a set of 188 animations and their high-definition line of military models, HD Soldiers, on Sept. 5. These models can be incorporated into game engines and scenes as either background actors or the main characters. They are compatible with major game engines such as Unity that are often used for training or visualization.
The HD Soldiers line is the follow-up to the Complete Soldiers models and was highlighted at the Rocketbox booth at London’s ITEC show in May.
Like the old models, the new characters come with facial expressions, can be inserted into projects running on real-time engines, and come with level-of-detail meshes (a basic skeleton with varying numbers of polygons that the texture sits atop).
The soldiers in the HD line have customizable texture elements, such as camouflage pattern and color, badges, tabs, patches, and flags. Characters also have add-on injuries such as facial wounds or bloody legs. Their gear is also removable, meaning the animations will work with or without the character’s helmet, vision system, weapons, or pouches
The new Rocketbox line is more realistic than Complete Soldiers, with fewer distorted angles that signal a computer graphic or video game character.
