PARIS— France has nominated Gen. Jean-Paul Paloméros, French air chief of staff, as the next head of NATO’s Allied Command Transformation at Norfolk Va., sources familiar with the situation said.

French President François Hollande has written to the NATO secretary-general with the nomination, expected to go before the government Cabinet meeting next week.

Paloméros succeeds Air Force Gen. Stéphane Abrial, who took up the post in 2009, after France rejoined NATO’s integrated military command structure. The Supreme Allied Commander Transformation post is one of the top alliance jobs.
