PARIS — The Airbus A400M military transport plane will not be making a flight display at the Farnborough air show in Britain next week following engine problems, a company spokesman said July 5.
“The decision to show the aircraft only on static display is due to problems with the engine which surfaced last week and which need more investigation,” an Airbus Military spokesman said.
The plane was pulled out of flight display at the Paris Air Show last year because of a similar problem.
“We are still expecting to deliver to the first client, the French air force, ahead of contractual schedule in the first quarter of 2013,” the spokesman said.
The A400 program has been wracked by teething problems related to the plane’s turboprop engines. Launched in 2003 by seven NATO members — Belgium, Britain, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain and Turkey, the program is four years late and over budget.
The plane can be used to transport troops and equipment and can land in rough terrain.
