It’s mobile and it has lasers. No, it’s not the Death Star — it’s the new Combat Training Center (CTC) that Cubic Corporation recently delivered to the Jordanian Armed Forces.
The training center includes the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) and trailers that house an exercise control center and an after-action review center. MILES uses lasers — the kind that won’t sear your retinas — that attach to actual weapons and simulate force-on-force contact by detecting hits from “laser bullets.” The system can also be applied to vehicles.
The CTC was delivered under a $17 million Foreign Military Sales contract made through the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation.
Cubic spent three weeks training units from the Jordanian Armed Forces to use the equipment, then conducted a week-long exercise.
This is a new type of training for the Jordanian Armed Forces, according to Mike Collier, a senior program manager for Cubic Defense Applications.
“They have never trained force-on-force with MILES before,” Collier said in a company press release.
