SINGAPORE — Indonesia’s air force will purchase a fleet of Airbus Military C295 transporters, the two sides announced in the first significant defense contract of the Singapore Airshow, which opened Feb 14.

Nine aircraft are included in the $325 million deal, which will see the first machine delivered later this year and the final handover in mid-2014.

The deal will see EADS hand over a sizeable industrial package, including setting up a local production line by aerospace producer PT Dirgantara Indonesia and the creation of a service and delivery center.

Airbus and PTDI will set up a joint company to market the C295 in the region.

Manufacture of structural components such as the rear fuselage and tail empennage are also part of the agreement.

PTDI already assembles the Airbus C212 transport and has a parts and marketing arrangement on the C-235.

Indonesian plans to use the new aircraft, known locally as the CN-295, in military, humanitarian and other roles.
