ANKARA - Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has successfully tested the first T129 attack helicopter it is producing with Italy's AgustaWestland, the company said Aug. 17.

Under contracts signed in 2008 and 2010 worth billions of dollars, TAI, Turkey's state-owned main aerospace company, and AgustaWestland will co-manufacture 60 T129s - the Turkish version of the A129 Mangusta - for the Turkish Army over the next several years.

"TAI is pleased to announce the successful first flight of the first T129 prototype, produced at the TAI facilities in Ankara," the company said in a statement. With its first test flight conducted by TAI's test pilots, the prototype successfully has completed its test mission, it said.

The first few attack helicopters should be delivered to the Army at the end of next year.
